Bye Bye! Its time for the last diary entry of the course. It’s a pity I could not attend on the last lesson. However while reading your blogs it seems like you had a good time!! The negotiation simulation must have been fun!  It was a real pleasure to work with you all!! I think the course was good and what made it even better was the group! It was really nice to learn from all you guys about cultural differences and experiences regarding your experiences in negotiation situations in different cultural contexts. Also the group activities were a lot of fun in addition to being interesting!  The course taught me many things. I am going to sum up a few of the most interesting lessons that I learned about international negotiations. What draw my attention in particular during the course was the fact how cultural background affects negotiations and how understanding of the other culture can actually help you to achieve a better result in the negotiation. In addition to...

Truck negotiation Hello for the second last time!!  On the previous lesson we had the last assessed negotiation. My team was having a negotiation with Iceland frozen food company. The negotiation was about a truck order. Iceland needed truck for it’s growing business and my company was on the field of manufacturing that kind of trucks. The negotiation was open minded and went relatively well. Both teams were able to think outside fo the box and provide different alternatives for the deal. The beginning of the negotiation was about trying to find out which things were the most important for the other team. This was done by asking questions about the other team. The price seemed to be important for the other team. It was also the most crucial thing for my team (it was worth 5 points!!) and this made the negotiation more challenging.  The other team also wanted the trucks to be delivered into one port and they were also willing to get their trucks painted. Also the delive...

Homeworkhomework... The previous lecture was pretty cool. We discussed about what things have been good in the negotiation situations  in our experience and what could be improved. We also covered how negotiation differs in different countries and were shown pictures which described the style of negotiation in different countries. (The link is here: http://www.businessinsider.com/communication-charts-around-the-world-2014-3?fb_action_ids=10201674771653203&fb_action_types=og.recommends&r=US&IR=T&IR=T) I think the pictures were pretty interesting as they described well how the styles differ in general between countries. In addition to that we negotiated about the assessment criteria for the next assessed negotiation. It turned out to be quite a challenge this time as we ended up changing the model to a relatively great extent. The group was thorough and planned it well. For example, the environmental aspects (e.g. how to minimize the amount of ink used to pri...

Hello again! I think that the previous lesson was one of the funniest ones this far. It was interesting to see presentations about different topics that the students had chosen related to the course topics. In addition to the presentations there were activities that each group had planned and implemented. I think the activities were the best part of the lesson as they demonstrate the points given in a good and fun way. All the presentations were really good. However, I really liked the analysis about the negotiation scene from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I had seen the movie and was familiar with the scene. However, I had not noticed how many different aspects to negotiation it contained before now. I think I will never be able to see Pirates of the Caribbean again without looking into Jack Sparrows negotiation skills so the presentation really changed my life =P In every presentation, there was very good discussion about the topics. I learned for example many ...
