Homeworkhomework...

The previous lecture was pretty cool. We discussed about what things have been good in the negotiation situations in our experience and what could be improved. We also covered how negotiation differs in different countries and were shown pictures which described the style of negotiation in different countries. (The link is here: http://www.businessinsider.com/communication-charts-around-the-world-2014-3?fb_action_ids=10201674771653203&fb_action_types=og.recommends&r=US&IR=T&IR=T) I think the pictures were pretty interesting as they described well how the styles differ in general between countries.

In addition to that we negotiated about the assessment criteria for the next assessed negotiation. It turned out to be quite a challenge this time as we ended up changing the model to a relatively great extent. The group was thorough and planned it well. For example, the environmental aspects (e.g. how to minimize the amount of ink used to print it out) were taken into account =D

I had a negotiation situation a few weeks back as I was negotiating about a to go to eat to. I was with a bunch of friends and we were getting hungry so we decided to go to eat. However, the decision was not as easy as it sounds as everybody turned out to want to go to a different place. Therefore, we actually had a negotiation where we provided arguments for and against of different places. I think what succeeded well was that everybody listened to the opinions of other people. We also succeeded to make the atmosphere of the negotiation good. However, what turned out to be challenging was the ability of people to provide different ideas and think outside of the box. Inside of aiming for a win-win situation we ended up having a friendly battle about the issue where everybody tried o win with their own idea and did not provide any flex. I think that the outcome could have been better for everybody in case different options were considered in a more open-minded manner. However, as the topic of the negotiation wasn’t serious everybody were actually happy with the outcome so it could be regarded as a success in that particular situation.

Good luck to the negotiation this week!!

  1. Deciding on a place to eat always seems to be much harder that it should be. :)

  2. Hey,
Nice to read your article, I also find interesting to see how negotiation differs between countries and cultures.
Yes, this time we all were environmental friendly, green people, it was so funny because it was one of our first priorities... But at the end we did the assessment criteria well (We used it today, and I think it can be helpful for others that will receive feedbacks.)
Every time this negotiation about "where to eat" happens with my friend, where was it at the end ? Did you eat tacos ? Haha !
